Colorado Christian Dominate in 3-0 Win over Cowgirls

LAKEWOOD,CO- The Cougars played their second game of the weekend at Trailblazer Stadium on Sunday, taking on New Mexico Highlands. Led by an early goal, Colorado Christian controlled play en route to a convincing 3-0 shutout, their second clean sheet in as many games.

HOW IT HAPPENED- From the first whistle it was clear who the aggressor was as the Cougars began to immediately threaten to take the lead. They did just that in the 9th minute as Capri Dewing played a ball into the box where Saige Stock controlled it to the waiting foot of Skylee Deladurantaye who slotted it home. Jessica Sims kept up the pressure as she fired several shots, but the Cowgirls goalie made a pair of saves to keep it 1-0. Stock, Dewing and Deladurantaye continued to be very involved after the goal they comboed for, each taking several more shots in the first half. Despite a barrage of attacks on the NMHU goal, the score stood at 1-0 heading to the break.

Determined to stretch the lead, Colorado Christian came out firing to begin the second half. In the 54th minute, Dewing played a ball past the defense of the Cowgirls and Stock ran onto it to put it in the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. Just four minutes later, Ashleigh Willette took the ball down the left side, crossed it into the box and Dewing put in the Cougars third goal off a deflection. The defense was strong all day for Colorado Christian as the backline and keeper Alana Lopp showed resolution in keeping another clean sheet. The Cougars controlled play to the end, resulting in a resounding 3-0 victory as they moved to 2-2 in RMAC play with their second consecutive conference win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • The offense was dominant, recording 15 shots to the Cowgirls single shot
  • NMHU was penalized 13 times with just four for CCU
  • Saige Stock led her team with five shots followed by Capri Dewing with four
