LAKEWOOD, CO- The Cougars were back at home on Sunday as they took on CSU Pueblo to continue RMAC play. Led by a strong backline and great performance in goal from Alana Lopp, CCU secured a 0-0 draw in a well played game from both teams.
It was the Thunderwolves who were on the front foot early, maintaining possession and not letting the Cougars break through their midfield. A pair of early shots did not find their target, and Jessica Sims had a shot saved in the 25th as she put one on goal. Capri Dewing also forced a save with a look in the 32nd, but the two teams went to the break scoreless.
The second half was very defensive on both sides as the two teams tried to figure out a way to break through with a goal. Neither team got many shots off, but in the later stages of the game, the Thunderwolves ratcheted up their pressure. A shot from inside the box was saved by Lopp as she batted it away in a successful diving attempt to keep things level. Then, in the 84th an even better shot challenged Lopp, but yet again she was up to the task with a leaping save that secured the 0-0 draw on an exciting day of soccer at Trailblazer Stadium.
CCU had nine total shots with two being on goal. Lopp was impressive with five saves, while the Cougars had just four fouls.
Colorado Christian will now hit the road as they travel to Colorado Mesa with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. MST in Grand Junction.
