LAKEWOOD, CO- The Cougars returned home on Friday evening for an RMAC matchup with Adams State. The Grizzlies came out with fire and played their way to a 3-1 victory over the hosts.
From the jump, ASU came out with energy as they jumped to an 8-2 advantage early on. Kills from Renee Phillips and Abby Breeding brought CCU within 14-9, and they later fought back to tie the set at 21 apiece after an Izzy Jones kill. With the set at 24-24, the Grizzlies managed to score the final two points to take the set 26-24.
In the second set, things leveled out as the teams fought back and forth for control of the set. Libby Goodman slammed down a kill to tie things at 10 before Phillips made it 18-17 to tighten the set late. Trailing 20-17, the Cougars ripped off an eight-point run to close the set out, led by several Goodman kills to win the set 25-20.
After gaining a lead at 16-14, the Grizzlies rattled off a run to take the 20-16 advantage. The visitors were able to close it out as they took the third set 25-20.
Adams State came out strong in the fourth set as they looked to finish off the match with an early 13-7 lead. The Cougars fought back to within 23-16, but the Grizzlies ultimately took the set and the match 25-17.
Goodman led with 18 kills, while Phillips tallied 11. Jones registered 46 assists, and Tarryn Debenedetto picked up 12 digs.
Colorado Christian will be back in action October 14 at home as they take on CSU Pueblo at 5 p.m. MST.
