The Cougars faced a tough loss versus Regis University at home tonight, struggling early in the first half. They gained momentum in the second but could not quite pull off the comeback. The Rangers were aggressive and consistent all night, and the Cougs could not answer.
The first half started out aggressive, with scrappy defense from both teams.
Shaylen Woodberry opened the scoring with a field goal, and a beautiful assist from Woodberry to
Bradley Land started off the Cougars battle with the Rangers. The Rangers also had a quick start, drawing fouls in addition to consistent layups. The Cougars struggled with rebounding early, giving Regis an opportunity to score. The Rangers landed another three-pointer, and CCU called a timeout. Land came out hot and got the and-one. Fortunately, the Cougs came out swinging in the second half. Jake Everson hit a sweet jumper, and
Nic Zeil had a nasty block to gain some momentum back for the Cougars. A series of mistakes by Regis kept the Cougars flowing, but they still had a lot of work to do. Woodberry hit a nice three, and
Schafer Reichart drew a foul to make the score 29-48. Freshman
Tate Odvody checked in to hit a three, and Everson had a steal on the way back to the other end of the court. The Cougs took a timeout, and then Zeil hit a pair of free throws. The Cougars continued to work back into the game, with Brendan Patrick hitting back to back threes. CCU brought the score within 13, but could not dig themselves out of the hole, and the game ended 62-75.
