PUEBLO, CO- The Cougars finished up their two game road trip with a matchup at CSU Pueblo Saturday night. In a hard fought back and forth affair, CCU barely fell by a final score of 73-70 to the Thunderwolves.
Nic Zeil continued his hot shooting from beyond the arc with an early three-pointer, while Noah Kon hit a jumper for an early three point lead. Bradley Land connected from downtown to get his team going, while Brenden Patrick later hit a jumper to make the lead five.
The teams battled back and forth from there, trading baskets until a Jacob Everson three tied it at 32. A late basket from the hosts sent them ahead 34-32 heading to the break.
Shaylen Woodberry got involved with a three early in the second half, and a Land free throw a few minutes later saw the Cougars go up by one. Michael Bell Jr. connected from three to give his team a four point lead as the battle continued.
CSU Pueblo was able to open up a five point lead midway through the half, but CCU responded. Everson and Patrick nailed three-pointers, while a Kon three brought the game to within one with 3:16 to go. The Thunderwolves were able to get on another late run to close the game, gaining an eight point lead with a little over a minute to play. CCU rallied back to within two, but ultimately could not make it all the way back in the 73-70 setback.
Noah Kon led the offense with 19 points, followed by Everson and Bell with nine. Zeil and Reichart pulled down eight rebounds apiece while Kon distributed well with four assists.
CCU will be back in action at home on December 7 against Western Colorado as they take on the Mountaineers at 8 p.m. MST inside the CCU Event Center.
