LAKEWOOD, CO- CCU returned home for a Wednesday matchup against Black Hills State on a cold night in Colorado. The Cougars came out firing in the first half, taking a seven point lead to the break. However, the Yellow Jackets played strong defense in the second en route to a 70-61 victory.
Colorado Christian had three players score in double digits on the night, led by Regan LoConte and Maggie Phipps. Each tallied 12 points, while Dasiya Jones posted 10 points on the night. Tessa Hauser was strong on the boards, pulling down six rebounds, followed by LoConte with five. Maggie Hutka put out three assists, while LoConte, Mykaela Moore and Agnes Paul chipped in two apiece.Â
The game was very evenly matched, with the Cougars gaining a slight edge in points in the paint at 26-24. The score was tied three times, with CCU leading by 10 at their largest lead and BHSU by 13. Colorado Christian came up with 14 second chance points to their opponents 10.Â
CCU led at the break by seven, but the Yellow Jackets boast the number one defense in the RMAC and it showed in the second period. Their stifling pressure minimized the Cougars' ability to score at the regularity they were in the first half and resulted in the 70-61 win for the visitors.Â
Colorado Christian will close their season on February 25 at 1 p.m. MST against South Dakota Mines on their Senior Day.
