PUEBLO, CO- Colorado Christian continued their road series at CSU Pueblo with a doubleheader on Saturday. The Cougars came out firing and never looked back on their way to two dominant victories to make it 18 straight wins.
GAME ONE
Taylor Olsen stayed hot, homering for the second straight day as her three-run shot gave CCU an early lead. Skyler Dietz followed with a sac fly in the second, and Sami Edwards doubled home a run. Logan Menzies doubled home Edwards and Caitlynn Martinez, and Miki Berg picked up an RBI with a single as it became 8-0.
Two runs in the second from CSUP did not slow CCU down as they responded with a Dietz homer and an Olsen single to make it 10-2. Kayla Middleton picked up an RBI in the fourth with a single and Dietz stayed scorching hot in the game with another RBI on a single. Samaria Roope picked up an RBI in the seventh before Menzies and Berg slammed back-to-back homers to finish the Thunderwolves 17-7.
Kali Crandall pitched five innings with three hits and three strikeouts allowed. Menzies and Olsen each had four RBI to lead the offense in the first contest.
GAME TWO
In the final game of the series, CCU left no doubt of who the best team on the field was. A fielders' choice in the third scored Kenzie Middleton, and Savannah Tourville blasted a two-run bomb in the fourth to make it 3-0. Kenzie Middleton got in on the home run hitting in the fifth with a solo shot, and Berg blasted a three-run homer for her second in as many games. Menzies singled home another run before CCU put it out of reach. Kayla Middleton stepped up with the bases loaded and uncorked a grand slam to center field as the Cougars run-ruled the hosts in six innings 12-0.
Abrie Castillo was excellent all game, pitching six shutout innings with only three hits allowed and three strikeouts. Kayla Middleton's grand slam powered the offense with her four RBI in a rout of CSUP.
Colorado Christian will return home for a doubleheader against UCCS on March 4 at 12 and 2 p.m. MST.
