MONMOUTH, OR- Colorado Christian closed their trip to the Pacific Northwest with a Sunday matchup against the hosts Western Oregon University. Two early goals from the Wolves proved too much as the Cougars fell in the end by a final score of 2-1.
WOU got off an early shot, but keeper Ireland Jeffrey made a nice save to keep the hosts scoreless. Jessie Sims and Capri Dewing then had looks for the Cougars, but neither made their way on target. Zoe Sims then missed over the top of the goal before things turned in favor of the Wolves. In less than two minutes, Western Oregon struck for a pair of goals as they took control of the half. Dewing had the best look of the half in the 34th minute as she put a shot on goal that was saved by the Wolves keeper. The half ended with a 2-0 advantage for the hosts.Â
Dewing kept the pressure up in the second period, forcing two more saves from the WOU keeper. In the 64th minute, CCU broke through as Alaina Kregel put one into the back of the net to bring her team within one goal. Kregel nearly tied the game up minutes later, but the keeper made the save and ended the final threat of the game for the Cougars as Western Oregon hung on for a 2-1 victory.Â
Colorado Christian will return to the Centennial State for their home opener on September 7 against Texas Permian-Basin at 6 p.m. MST.
