COLORADO SPRINGS, CO- The Cougars wrapped up their four game road trip on Saturday night as they took on UCCS in the springs. A tight game throughout, the hosts managed to close well in the end to claim an 81-69 victory.
Noah Kon got the scoring started for his first team with an early jumper, and Jacob Everson later hit a jumper to tie things at nine. Brenden Patrick nailed a jumper to make it a one point game before a Bradley Land jumper closed it to 21-19 midway through the half.
The Mountain Lion defense clamped down from there until around two minutes remaining when Nic Zeil and Everson hit jumpers to cut the UCCS lead to three at 29-26. Heading to the break, the hosts led by a score of 33-26.
The Cougars battled to begin the second half, with Schafer Reichart converting a layup and CJ Barnes putting a layup in himself. After a pair of Patrick free throws, Kon made a layup to pull his team within three with nine minutes left.
A Barnes dunk kept it close, but with about eight minutes to go the Mountain Lions began to stretch the lead. They pushed the advantage to 13 with 1:33 to go, and ultimately closed out the game with a final score of 81-69.
Kon led the offense with 25 points, followed by Zeil and Everson with 8. Everson dished out a trio of assists to go with 5 rebounds to lead his team.
