GOLDEN, CO- Colorado Christian resumed RMAC play on Saturday afternoon as they took on Colorado School of Mines in nearby Golden. The Cougars battled hard, but in the end fell by a final score of 88-72.
Bradley Land got the scoring started for his team with a jumper, and CJ Barnes quickly made a layup as the teams traded baskets early. Land and Barnes continued to lead the effort, while Shaylen Woodberry connected from deep to bring the Cougars within two. A Schafer Reichart jumper tied later things at 13 apiece a little over five minutes into the game. Jacob Everson had a five point burst with a three and jumper to send his team ahead by three, and midway through the half the game was tight at 23-20 Mines.
Nic Zeil got his scoring going with a three-pointer, and Land later converted a strong three-point play to bring his team close. Mines went on a run from there to go up, but a late Tanner Hewcht three sent the teams to the break with the hosts leading 45-35.
Zeil continued the hot shooting from beyond the arc in the second half as he quickly connected on a three, but the Orediggers slowly started to pull away. The lead grew to 22 by the midway point of the half as the home team began to find rhythm.
There was no lack of fight from the Cougars as Tate Odvody hit a three-pointer followed by another Land three-point play. Odvody closed with a jumper and Bobby McWard hit a three at the end, but the Orediggers ultimately took home the win 88-72.
Land and Zeil led the offensive effort with 11 points apiece, with 7 and 6 rebounds respectively. Reichart dished out 5 assists while Woodberry finished with 7 points and 7 rebounds.
Colorado Christian returns to action at home on January 12 as they take on Westminster University at 7 p.m. MST.
