BELLINGHAM, WA- Colorado Christian headed to Northern Washington to compete in the WWU Invitational September 30- October 1, and the defending National Champions made history while there. With an overall score of 37 under par, the Cougars tied their lowest three round total while winning their third straight tournament for the first time in program history.
Xavier Bighaus fired three stellar rounds to claim the individual title as CCU has now won each tournament they've played in this fall with three different individual winners.
ROUND ONE
Bradley Mulder led the team in round one with a 68 as he fired off five birdies.
Sangha Park followed as he eagled the first hole and finished with a 69 with three birdies. Bighaus was next with a 70 as he sank four birdies, and
Adam Duncan shot a 71 with five birdies as well.
Peyton Jones dropped in three birdies on his way to an even par 72.
Ben Fowler competed as an individual and fired a 75 with a trio of birdies to close the first round.
ROUND TWO
Bighaus caught fire in the second round as he played bogey free golf with an eagle on the seventh hole and five birdies to card a 65. Park tallied five birdies on his way to a stellar 67, and Mulder and Duncan both posted 70s. Jones closed the day with a 75.
Flower posted a 73 with three more birdies to finish day one.
ROUND THREE
Bighaus continued the momentum he gained from round two, shooting a final round 68 with four birdies and an eagle on 11 as he claimed the individual title with an overall score of -13. Park shot a 70 to claim medalist honors in third at -10, and Mulder was right behind him with a 69 to tie for fourth. Duncan shot a 70 with four birdies to card a 70 to tie for seventh, and a 72 from Jones gave him 31st.
Fowler shot a final round score of 79 to tie for 51st overall at the tournament.
With an overall score of 827 (278, 272, 277) the team claimed the title by an impressive 26 strokes and tied their three round low score of -37. With the third straight win, the team made history as this is the first time the program has claimed three consecutive titles.
The Cougars will look to make it four straight October 20-22 as they head to Hawaii October 21-22 to take part in the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate.
