CCU Celebrate Seniors with Well Earned Draw in the Snow

LAKEWOOD, CO- The Cougars closed the 2024 season and celebrated their seniors as they took on Regis on a frigid and snowy night in Colorado. In a game filled with intrigue and intensity throughout, the two teams played to a hard fought 4-4 draw after CCU rallied back for three second half goals.

Snow was falling as the two teams kicked off, and the CCu offense struck quickly in the seventh minute as a ball got past the Regis keeper for Arthur Santana to play to a waiting Caleb Dodge as the senior buried his shot for a goal. The Rangers equalized seven minutes later on a header that was headed in from close range. In the 25th, Regis claimed their first lead of the game as a free kick outside the box was played short and ended in a goal. The Rangers pressured from there, getting a pair of shots off to force saves from Jai Gillespie as the foes went to halftime with Regis leading 2-1.

The second half was a wild one as CCU equalized in the 53rd on a beautiful rip from the top of the 18 yard box from Lucca Casci. Regis was awarded a penalty less than two minutes later, and they netted the chance for a 3-2 lead. Enter Tiago Gomes. The sophomore scored from close range as he received a pass from Adrian Diez and slotted it home for the tie in the 67th. As the teams approached the final 15 minutes of play, Gomes picked up the ball and fired an absolute stunner from outside the box as the home team and its crowd that braved the elements went into a frenzy. With just under two minutes to go, a corner resulted in a goal from Regis as they leveled the score at 4-4 at the snow covered Trailblazer Stadium. Things got heated at the end of the match as a Rangers player was issued a red card and three more yellows were issued on the same play with seconds remaining in the game. The final whistle sounded as CCU closed their season with a hard earned 4-4 draw with the #2 team in the conference.

After the game, the team celebrated their nine excellent seniors and graduate students that included Arthur Santana, Gabe Roloff, Corey Smith, Drew Brown, Daniel Garciacano, Zane Jacobson, Caleb Dodge, Adrian Diez and Lucca Casci

Colorado Christian finishes the season with an overall record of 4-6-8 with a mark of 2-5-3 in the RMAC. With a lot of youth and returners on the team, look for CCU to challenge for an RMAC Tournament bid in the years to come.
