LAKEWOOD, CO - The Cougars closed out their regular season with a home matchup against crosstown rivals MSU Denver. With the snow falling during the match, the two teams battled hard for a hard earned 1-1 draw.
It was the Cougars who got things started off just six minutes in the match,
Hannah Mares came across the loose pass to find
Justine Moreau who shot the ball at the near post to give CCU the early 1-0 lead. MSUD would keep the pressure on the hosts, as a shot was saved and forced wide by
Alana Lopp. The Roadrunners kept going on the offense and held the ball in possession trying to catch the Cougars off their guard. Lopp would continue to perform perfectly in the first half, making five total saves in the half. One final chance for the visitors would go wide, and that would take the match to halftime with CCU leading 1-0.Â
The Roadrunners kept on attacking to start off the second half helping them win a corner kick. In the 56th minute on the same corner kick, the ball was brought down by Lopp and the ball found its way to get the equalizer for MSUD to tie the game 1-1. Time would go by before CCU would get another shot on goal from Moreau, but a good save from the opposing keeper would keep the game tied. MSUD would keep attacking with a pair of corner kicks with 15 minutes left, but CCU stood tall in the backline to clear away those chances. With the dropping temperature, both teams would keep making substitutions to keep fresh legs on the field and to help keep the players warm. A final chance for MSUD would be saved by Lopp, as that would be the final chance of the game with the ref blowing the final whistle in this crosstown rival matchup with a 1-1 tie.
Colorado Christian closed out their regular season with a record of 6-7-4 and a conference record of 5-4-3. A great turnaround season for the program and head coach
Caleb Cole in his first season.
