Cougars Continue Homestand with Tilt Against Cowboys

LAKEWOOD, CO- CCU continued play at home in front of a large and raucous crowd at the CCU Event Center as they took on New Mexico Highlands on Saturday night. The game featured a numerous amount of ties and lead changes, but the Cougars ultimately fell by a final score of 101-93.

Both offenses got going early, as NMHU hit a three-pointer on their first possession and CCU got a three from Bradley Land as the offense quickly caught fire. Everson drilled a three and layup moments later as the rhythm continued offensively, and the teams battled back and forth to a 29-29 tie midway through the half.

The high powered scoring continued, as Bobby McWard nailed a three-pointer and Land hit a jumper for a one point lead. Shaylen Woodberry started what would be a special night for him with a shot from beyond the arc, and a late Land three sent CCU to the half leading 51-50.

The game remained tight as the second half began, and Nic Zeil connected from downtown for a three point lead. AT the 14 minute mark, the Cowboys made their move, going on a run to take a 76-62 lead into the final 10 minutes.

Woodberry brought his team back closer with a three, and he hit another moments later to send the crowd into a frenzy. Woodberry's third straight three was enough to bring the house down, but NMHU managed to get baskets to stay ahead. Woodberry cashed in with another three, but in the end the Cowboys came away with the 101-93 victory.

Woodberry was excellent all night, pouring in 23 points on 6-10 shooting from beyond the arc. Land posted a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Three others scored in double digits as Noah Kon had 13 followed by Zeil and Everson with 10.

The Cougars are back home on February 23 as they play host to Colorado School of Mines with tipoff slated for 7 p.m. MST.
