CCU Snags Another Pair of Wins

DURANGO, CO - Securing two more wins on the road, the Cougars took both games today in their double-header at Fort Lewis.

GAME 1 - Colorado Christian took game one of the series thanks to a couple of high scoring innings, winning the game 10-3. The Skyhawks were the first to score after notching two runs in the bottom of the 1st. The Cougars got on the board with a single run in the top of the second after Sami Edwards Tripled, then scored as Logan Menzies grounded out. It was 3 up 3 down in the bottom of the inning, which set the tone for the 5 runs the team scored in the top of the third. Kenzie Middleton got it started with a home run, and was followed by Kayla Middleton who singled. Leah Garcia then reached on a fielder's choice, and the two runners advanced on a passed ball. Kaila Eastburn then singled to center field to score the next pair of runs. Rawnie Weststrate came in to pinch run for Eastburn, and made it to third after Sami Edwards singled. Mia Stankiewicz then singled to score 2 more, making the count 6-2.

The fourth inning saw the Cougars score 4 more runs to seal the victory. Camryn Quilling was the first to score after reaching on an error, advancing when Kenzie Middleton walked, then coming home on a triple from Kayla Middleton. Leah Garcia then singled up the middle to bring home Kayla Middleton, and was the last to score as Kaila Eastburn tripled to make the score 10-2.

The Skyhawks scored 1 more in the bottom of the 5th, but were unable to overcome the great lead CCU had set.

GAME 2 - Just like the first game, Fort Lewis was the first to get on the board. However they scored once in the bottom of the 2nd and were unable to score again.

The Cougars found their stride in the top of the 4th, which got rolling after Kaila Eastburn doubled then advanced to third on a single from Sami Edwards. Bases were then loaded for Logan Menzies after Mia Stankiewicz was hit by pitch, and she responded with a single then advanced on the throw to score Eastburn and Edwards. Cheyenne Stark grounded out to bring home Stankiewicz, and Camryn Quilling had a sac bunt to score Menzies and put Colorado Christian up 4-1.

The next round of scoring game in the top of the 5th - Leah Garcia was the first to score after reaching on an error, stealing second, then scoring on a single from Sami Edwards. Mia Stankiewicz was hit by pitch and replaced with Elyse McMullin to pinch run. Logan Menzies followed with a double to score Edwards. A sac fly from Cheyenne Stark brought home McMullin to finish the inning and increase the lead by 6.

Colorado Christian closed out the game with a big 5-run inning in the top of the 7th to ensure the win. Sami Edwards led off with a double, then advanced to third on a Elyse McMullin single. Logan Menzies then walked to load the bases, and Cheyenne Stark was hit by pitch to score Edwards. Camryn Quilling then had a sac fly to score McMullin and advance the runners, who both scored thanks to a double from Kenzie Middleton. Kayla Middleton had a single to advance Kenzie to third, who was then brought home for the final run of the day when Garcia lined out and gave the Cougars their final score of 12-1.
