Cougars Close California Trip with Doubleheader at CSUSB

SAN BERNARDINO, CA- Colorado Christian faced off against Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday as they closed their trip to the West Coast with a doubleheader. The Cougars battled hard but in the end dropped the DH to the #4 Coyotes.

GAME ONE
The first game was a pitchers duel, as Saxton Sorenson faced off against CSUSB's Benny Olguin. Both pitchers dazzled, holding their opponent scoreless in five innings of work, with Sorenson throwing 95 pitches with just one hit allowed.

The Cougars broke through in the sixth inning, plating a run on a Sawyer Shepherd single that scored Aaron Morgan. However, the Coyotes responded in their half of the sixth with a pair of runs of their own to take the lead.

Runs in the seventh and eighth were enough for the Coyotes to come away with a 4-1 victory in the end.

Sorenson was excellent on the mound, hurling five complete innings, inducing 8 groundouts and 6 flyouts to cap an excellent outing. Shepherd continues to be an offensive force, tallying another RBI after he had two yesterday.

GAME TWO
The Coyotes brought the bats out in the second tilt of the day, pulling ahead early and never looking back. Transfer Gavin Acosta got his first RBI as a Cougar in the third with a single, while Kade Carney drew an RBI walk and Morgan picked up a sac fly in the same inning. Cole Douglass got a hold of a ball for a solo homer in the sixth, while Dorian Pacheco notched an RBI in the ninth to close the offensive scoring for CCU. In the end, CSUSB was too much though in a 21-5 defeat.

With their first three games under their belt, Colorado Christian now heads to Oklahoma for a four-game set with Rogers State University February 9-11.
