GOLDEN, CO- The Cougars closed their first RMAC series of the season with a doubleheader at Mines on Monday. The offense got more run production on this day, but the Orediggers claimed the pair of contests 8-3 and 9-4.
GAME ONE
The hosts scored first in the games first inning and tacked on another in the third. CCU responded in the fourth as
Luke Thompson ripped a solo homer followed by an RBI double from
Aaron Morgan to tie the game at 2-2.
The home team went on a run from there, scoring six straight runs to take an 8-2 lead.
Caden Walton tallied an RBI groundout in the ninth, but it wasn't enough as Mines claimed game one 8-3.
GAME TWO
The Cougars struck first in the second contest of the day as Thompson doubled home
Kade Carney for the early lead. Morgan followed with a single to plate Thompson as CCU jumped ahead 2-0. Mines answered with three runs in the first and continued with a run in the second for a 4-2 lead.
Tucker Willingham notched an RBI single in the third to tighten the gap to one run, but a pair of runs in the third from the Orediggers made it 6-3. Walton singled in another run, but a three-run home run in the fifth was the final blow as Mines claimed a 9-4 victory.
The Cougars will host their first RMAC series of the season as they welcome Adams State to All Star Park March 15-17, with first pitch on the 15th slated for 3 p.m. MST.
