Cougars Battle Adams State in Conference Doubleheader

PUEBLO, CO- Colorado Christian headed south to Rawlings Field as they hosted Adams State in a doubleheader with the games moved to Pueblo due to snow in the Lakewood area. CCU battled hard and pitched extremely well, but in the end fell short by scores of 3-0 and 6-1.

GAME ONE
Jake Gimbel took the mound in the first contest and was lights out. After one run was allowed in the first, the graduate student locked in and did not allow a run in his next six innings pitched. The pitching was solid from the Grizzlies as well as their starter got out of jams and did not allow the Cougars to get their offense going.

A costly double in the ninth made it 3-0 ASU, and the visitors were able to make it out with a 3-0 victory.

Gimbel went seven innings with just five hits allowed, one run and five strikeouts in a strong outing. Chaz Graham pitched the final two innings for CCU.

GAME TWO
The second game was another pitching battle as Justin Estrada got the start for the Cougars. The Grizzlies scored two in the first off an error, and added another on a homer in the third before Major Maydon got his team on the board with an RBI single to make it 3-1 after three.

Unfortunately, the Grizzlies were able to plate a pair in the fifth and one in the seventh to stretch their advantage to 6-1, and the offense never could put together the timely hit in a 6-1 defeat.

Estrada was stellar, striking out seven with just one earned run allowed. Maydon provided a spark at DH as he tallied an RBI.

CCU close their four-game set with Adams State on March 18 with another doubleheader in Pueblo set for 12 and 3 p.m. MST.
