CCU Close Season with Dominant Victory over Hardrockers

RAPID CITY, S.D.- Colorado Christian closed their season on Saturday night with a matchup at South Dakota Mines. The Cougars set the tone early, jumping ahead in the first half and never looking back en route to a 68-56 victory.

Bradley Land got things going early with a layup, and Jacob Everson connected from beyond the arc for a quick 5-0 lead. Schafer Reichart made a layup and Shaylen Woodberry drilled a three of his own for a lightning fast 12-1 lead. Woodberry hit another three and a three-point play from Brenden Patrick sent CCU ahead 20-6 midway through the half.

The points continued to come as Nic Zeil hit a three, and another three from Zeil and one from Patrick grew the lead to 38-19. The Hardrockers made a three at the end of the half, but CCU still led by a healthy margin at 40-24.

The onslaught from downtown did not stop after the break as Land and Everson connected from deep, and Woodberry hit a three to make it 56-37 with 10 minutes to go.

CJ Barnes got his team fired up with a dunk, and Patrick knocked down yet another three-pointer as the lead continued to stay comfortable. The Hardrockers managed to get the margin down to 10 points, but it was not until 1:37 to go. A Woodberry free throw closed the scoring on the season as the Cougars ended on a high note with a 68-56 victory.

Patrick paced the offense with 15 points, while Land and Zeil posted double-doubles with 12 and 11 points and 10 rebounds apiece. Woodberry posted 12 points on 3-6 shooting from beyond the arc.

The Cougars season comes to a close with a victory, and two wins in their last three competitions. CCU finished with a final record on the 2023-2024 season of 11-17 and 7-15 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
