GAME ONE
The scoring began in the second inning for the Cougars, and once they got going they were hard to stop.
Logan Menzies started off with a double and advanced to third on a bunt single from
Leah Garcia. CCU executed a perfect double steal as Garcia forced a throw to second and Menzies stole home.
Elyse McMullin nabbed an RBI sacrifice bunt to make it 2-0
Kenzie Middleton continued the scoring in the third with an RBI triple, and
Kaila Eastburn knocked a run-scoring single moments later. Garcia continued the scoring with a sac fly, and
Camryn Quilling doubled home another to make it 6-0.
Kayla Middleton put the finishing touches on the scoring, roping a two-run single to centerfield to extend the lead to 8-0. The Cougars closed the game out in five innings to claim the dominant 8-0 run-rule win.
Hanna Espinoza continued her dominance, going four innings with a strikeout and just three hits allowed to extend her streak of no runs allowed to 25 innings. With her single to lead off the third,
Sami Edwards tallied her 284th hit as a Cougar, cementing her legacy with the most career hits in program history.
GAME TWO
The second contest saw the scoring start in the second again as Garcia notched an RBI groundout. McMullin followed with a sac fly to make it 2-0, and a bases-loaded walk of Edwards saw the advantage stretch to 3-0. Kenzie then smacked a two-run double as the offense rolled to a 5-0 lead.
The pitching and defense continued to excel for the Cougars as Eastburn held the Thunderwolves from scoring time and time again with big strikeouts. Eastburn helped her own cause out with a sac fly in the fifth, and
Mia Stankiewicz tallied a sacrifice fly of her own in the sixth to make it 7-0. The game ended with a 7-0 victory as CCU has now allied just one run in their last six competitions.
Eastburn was excellent in the circle, striking out five and allowing just four hits through a full seven innings of scoreless work.
