LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian began their four-game series at home against Regis on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The games played out as absolut thrillers as the Cougars used timely hitting to nab a pair of walkoff wins, including one in the the tenth inning of game one for a pair of victories by a score of 7-6 and 9-8.
GAME ONE
In what turned out to be a long battle,
Kenzie Middleton started out hot with a two-run homer in the first inning. The Rangers tacked on four runs in the second, third and fourth to claim the 4-2 lead, but the Cougars quickly responded.
Logan Menzies began with a solo homer in the fourth before
Kaila Eastburn tied the game in the fifth with a single.
Cheyenne Stark doubled to give her team the lead, but Regis tied things at five in the seventh to send the game to extra innings. A homer in the tenth gave the Rangers a lead, but CCU refused to go down quietly. Eastburn responded with a double to tie the game to set the table for a game-winner.
Samaria Roope delivered, roping a single to give her team the 7-6 walkoff victory.
Emma Duncan went a solid 6.2 innings, allowing just three runs while
Rawnie Weststrate picked up the win. Kenzie and Easburn led the offense with a pair of RBI apiece.
GAME TWO
Regis struck first in the second with a solo homer, but Menzies roped a two-run double to give her team the lead back. The Rangers tied the back and forth affair back up at two the next inning before CCU went on another run. Eastburn singled home a run while
Sami Edwards doubled home another the next inning. Eastbrun continued to be effective with another RBI single in the fourth for a 5-2 lead, but the game would tighten from there.
Regis came back with a three RBi inning double in the fifth to tie the game, and they took the lead on a two-run blast moments later.
Elyse McMullin brought a run back in the sixth with an RBI double before the Rangers extended the lead to two again in the sixth with a bases loaded walk. Stark picked up an RBI groundout to set the scene for the seventh and final inning with CCU trailing 8-7. Menzies made sure her team did not lose, blasting a solo homer to centerfield for her second long ball of the day.
Kayla Middleton reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and advanced to third on the throw to put herself just 60 feet away from home plate and the win. Edwards once again showed her veteran play, smacking a single to send her team home the winners in consecutive walkoff victories with a final score of 9-8 in game two.
Weststrate picked up her second win of the season and the day with 2.1 innings of work and three strikeouts. Menzies was huge for her team, notching three RBI to give Edwards the chance to win the game with her single in the bottom of the seventh. Additionally, Edwards drew a walk in the bottom of the sixth that gave her 93 overall, the all-time program record at CCU.
The Cougars will look to make it five RMAC sweeps in a row with another doubleheader April 14 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. MST at All Star Park.
