Cougars Finish Regular Season Road Slate 24-0

SPEARFISH, SD- Colorado Christian closed their regular season road slate with a doubleheader at Black Hills State on Sunday. CCU finished their road contests with a 24-0 record after a pair of victories, claiming wins of 12-2 and 9-5 in South Dakota.

GAME ONE
The Cougars wasted little time taking the lead in the first contest as Kenzie Middleton blasted a two-run homer in the first, and Kayla Middleton got in on the homer party with a solo blast in the third. Kaila Eastburn continued the scoring with a two RBI double later in the inning, and Eastburn later came around to score on a wild pitch. Logan Menzies closed the inning with an RBI single to send the score to 7-0.

Menzies uncorked a two-run home run in the fifth, and Camryn Quilling singled in a run to make it 10-0. Sami Edwards singled and an error allowed Quilling and Kayla to score. A pair of late runs from the Yellowjackets did nothing to change the outcome as CCU nabbed a 12-2 run-rule victory in five innings.

Eastburn notched the victory with 4.1 innings pitched and an impressive seven strikeouts, while Rawnie Weststrate closed the game out for her team. Menzies led the offense with three RBI, while Eastburn helped her own cause with a pair of RBI.

GAME TWO
The second contest was a pitching duel as Emma Duncan faced off against Laci Peskey for BHSU. The two teams battled to a scoreless tie through four innings before the Cougars broke through in the fifth. Elyse McMullin reached on an error that scored Quilling, and Eastburn provided two more RBI to make it 3-0. Cheyenne Stark blasted a hugely important two-run homer in the sixth before Kayla notched a sac fly for the 6-0 advantage.

Black Hills State refused to go down easily, scoring five runs in the sixth to tighten the gap to one. Menzies came up huge to give her team a little cushion in the seventh with a two-run double, and Stark doubled in the final run of the game as CCU hung on for a 9-5 victory.

Emma Duncan nabbed the win with 5.2 innings pitched on seven strikeouts. Weststrate closed the final 1.1 innings in her second appearance of the day. After scoring no runs the first four innings, Stark helped the Cougars get on track with a trio of paramount RBI.

Colorado Christian will close the regular season with a four game set at home with MSU Denver April 25-26, with first pitch Thursday set for 12 p.m. MST from All Star Park.
