LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian wrapped up their series with MSU Denver with a doubleheader on Monday at All Star Park. The two teams brought the bats, exploding on both affairs that the Roadrunners took 11-8 and 29-12.
GAME ONE
The Roadrunners struck for two runs in the first inning, but an error allowed
Kade Carney to score in the bottom of the first to tighten the gap. MSU Denver tacked on three more, but
Luke Thompson singled home a run in the second to keep his team within striking distance. Two more runs made it 7-2 before CCU answered in the third.
Aaron Morgan began the rally with an RBI single, and moments later Thompson singled home two more to bring the score to 7-5. Two more scored for the Roadrunners before
William Brassil gave his team life with a huge three-run no-doubter to right field as the Cougars drew within one. In the end, though, two more in the seventh were enough to give the visitors an 11-8 victory in the tight contest.
Brassil and Thompson paced the offense as they tallied 3 RBI apiece.
GAME TWO
The second contest turned into a homer-fest as the two squads combined for 13 big flies throughout the seven inning game. MSU Denver got going with five runs in the first, but
Jonny Tewinkle launched a two-run bomb to bring things closer. After two more scored by the Roadrunners in the second, Morgan uncorked a two-run homer in response. The third inning was a long one for the Cougars as MSUD erupted for 10 runs.
Still battling,
Sawyer Shepherd came in as a pinch hitter and immediately got to work by slamming a three run bomb to left field. Tewinkle picked up an RBI single in the fourth, and Morgan blasted his second homer of the game in the fifth on a solo shot. Some savvy and opportunistic baserunning led to two more runs, but in the end the Roadrunners ran away with a 29-12 victory.
The offense was explosive in the second game, led by Morgan with three RBI on a multi-homer game. Tewinkle and Shepherd were also strong with a trio of RBI each.
The Cougars will close their home slate for 2024 April 27-28 with doubleheaders against Regis each day beginning at 1 p.m MST both days.
