CCU Close Roadtrip with Doubleheader Sweep

LAS VEGAS, NM- The Cougars closed play at New Mexico Highlands on Sunday with a doubleheader. The outcome of both games was never in question as Colorado Christian dominated in a pair of run-rule victories 8-0 and 14-3.

GAME ONE
The second inning started the scoring for the Cougars as Camryn Quilling roped a double to bring home two runs. Kayla Middleton then tripled home another run as the inning ended with a 3-0 lead for the visitors.

Kaila Eastburn brought some power in the third with a two-run blast to make it 5-0. Another run was plated in the fourth on a Sami Edwards sac fly and Kenzie Middleton picked up a sacrifice fly to make it 7-0 moments later. Logan Menzies put the finishing touches on the win with an RBI double in the fifth to stretch the lead to 8-0 and close the run-rule victory.

Emma Duncan nabbed win number 13 in the circle with just one hit allowed and five strikeouts. Eastburn's long ball paced the offense in the dominant display of consistency.

GAME TWO
The powerful hitting of the Cougars was on full display throughout the second contest of the day as they blew the game wide open early and never looked back. Kenzie doubled in a run in the first inning, and Eastburn continued the scoring with an RBI single. Leah Garcia singled one more in as the inning ended with a 3-0 lead.

The Cowgirls responded with three in their half of the first to tie things, but that was as close as things would be the rest of the way. Carson Griggs broke the tie by scoring on an error in the third and things snowballed from there. Menzies singled home a run before Kayla stepped up and uncorked a two-run home run for a 7-3. Kenzie followed suit two batters later with a two-run shot of her own to break things wide open at 9-3.

The long ball did not stop there as Eastburn launched her second homer of the day right after Kenzie. Garcia doubled in a run before Cheyenne Stark ripped a three-run homer as the Cougars scored an incredible 11 runs in the third. The offense slowed from there but the damage was already done as the Cougars closed out a 14-3 victory in mercy-rule fashion.

Eastburn picked up the win for her 12th victory of the season as she threw the final four innings with five strikeouts and just one hit allowed. CCU used the home run to pull away as they launched four long balls in the third inning.

The Cougars have now won 16 straight in conference play to improve to 29-3 in the RMAC. CCU will return home April 13-14 as they host Regis in a pair of doubleheaders at All Star Park with first pitch set for noon Saturday and 11 a.m. MST Sunday.
