Cougars Fall in Winners Bracket Matchup vs Regis

GRAND JUNCTION, CO- Colorado Christian took on Regis on Friday afternoon to continue play in the RMAC Tournament. The game was a pitching duel for the majority of the game, but a late surge from the Rangers gave them a 7-4 victory and a spot in the championship game tomorrow.

Kenzie Middleton put her team ahead early, blasting a solo homer to right field for a 1-0 first inning advantage. Regis tied the game in the third, but Sami Edwards broke the tie quickly with an RBI single in the third. The team remained scoreless from there until the sixth.

Leah Garcia roped a timely two-run triple in the sixth, sending her team ahead 4-1 heading into the final inning. A few errors in the seventh came back to haunt CCU as the Rangers rallied to put up a six spot for a 7-4 lead with three outs to work with for the Cougars. CCU could not pull off the comeback, falling 7-4 to drop into the losers bracket tomorrow.

Emma Duncan was strong in the circle, throwing 5 innings with a pair of strikeouts and just one run allowed. Kenzie continued to swing a hot bat at the tournament, with her solo homer in the first making it two big flies and 6 RBI in two games for her team.

With the setback, the Cougars drop into the losers bracket, and they will face off against the winner of (3) MSU Denver vs (1) Colorado Mesa at 11 a.m. MST on May 4 with a chance to advance into the title game. The Roadrunners and Mavericks face off at 5:30 p.m. MST tonight to decide who advances to face off with CCU on Saturday.
