WASHINGTON D.C.- After an historic season in which the men's golf team took home the school's first ever national title, the team was honored with an invite to the White House on Monday. National Champions from Divisions I, II and III gathered together to be celebrated in the nations' capitol to culminate their memorable seasons.
Head Coach
Mark Hull, Assistant Coach Stan Sayers and champions
Adam Duncan,
Dylan Arthur,
Peyton Jones and
Cameron Sandland made the trip to Washington D.C. and made memories that will last a lifetime. The team had the privilege of meeting other champions, White House staffers, military members and secret service agents throughout the day. The Cougars were able to go inside the White House and tour parts of the historic building before convening on the South lawn for a celebration led by Vice President Kamala Harris.Â
"Visiting the White House and getting to interact with the staff, military personnel and secret service was a great privilege. Being honored for our achievements with my coach and team was really cool. It was a blast to get to meet and talk to other athletes who were champions in their respective sports/divisions. Hopefully this won't be our only time going to the White House!", Duncan said.Â
The leader of the program
Mark Hull has been with the Cougars for a long time, and to climb the mountaintop for the national title and be honored at the White House was an extremely special experience.Â
"What an opportunity to be welcomed to the home of our federal government! We are still in disbelief that they invited and welcomed us with open arms. It was unbelievable to arrive at the White House and have people come up to us and not only know what school we were from, but also address us by our names. They knew exactly who we were when we walked in the gate. What a special, once in a lifetime opportunity," said Hull.Â
It was a wonderful day of celebration for the team as they got to look back on their accomplishments and experience unforgettable moments.Â
"It was incredible! A once in a lifetime opportunity. We were able to tour the inside, and they made us feel like valued guests and champions! They knew each of us by name and welcomed us into the room. We then had a ceremony on the South lawn where we saw the Oval Office, and played games while the Marine Corps band was playing live music for us! It was surreal and I'm honored to have represented CCU at the White House!", said Arthur.Â
Winning a title takes years and years of hard work and dedication, and many dream of attending the White House as champions.Â
"It was really just a surreal and beyond amazing experience to have been at the White House with the team! For me, being invited to the White House has always been something I thought would be really awesome but probably would never happen. But it actually happened and was as impressive as I ever could've imagined!", Jones said.Â
It is a great honor to be invited to such a historic and important place like the White House and it was a great opportunity for the team to represent Colorado Christian in the capitol.
"It was an amazing experience to be celebrated and honored at the most prestigious place like the White House. 10/10 experience I'll never forget.", said Sandland.Â
It was the perfect culmination to the best season in Cougar Athletics history, and the players and coaches will surely remember their visit to the White House for the rest of their lives. Congratulations to the entire men's golf program for representing CCU so well and for winning with grace throughout the entire process! We are proud of you and look forward to the future with much anticipation!
