DENVER, CO- The Cougars took the short trip just north across town to take on the Rangers from Regis University on Sunday afternoon. Despite getting multiple shots on goal, it wasn't enough to stop the Rangers from earning the win and beating the Cougars 3-0.
The Cougars started things off with
Danel Hach getting a pair of shots but missing the target but trying to get momentum going for CCU.
Capri Dewing would get an attempt for a free kick 30-yards away from goal giving the Rangers goalkeeper a test and making the save. Regis had a nice shot from distance forcing
Alana Lopp to punch the ball behind her and over the crossbar. After a shot on the edge of the penalty box for Regis and blocked by the Cougars, the lone Rangers attacker found the loose ball and scored on the near post to give Regis the 1-0 lead. One final cross attempt from
Olivia Maxfield would find the hands of the Regis goalkeeper, and that would take us to halftime with Regis leading 1-0.
With the second half underway the Cougars would try to move the ball around themselves to gain possession and build up an attack but the offside flag would go up. Regis won two corner kicks just under 11 minutes in the half, one of the kicks would be delivered in the middle of the 18 yard box for a header to the upper corner for a goal. As time went on the Cougars showed no quit in them with
Alexis Byrd getting a nice through ball and getting a shot off but saved by the keeper's left hand. Time would start to wind down for CCU to get one back, but the Ranger saw their chance and took it by heading the ball in the back of the net for their third goal. The ref would end the match minutes later with the Rangers defeating the Cougars 3-0.
Colorado Christian will look to bounce back as they travel down to Colorado Springs to take on UCCS on October 3 at 7:00 p.m. MST.
