LAKEWOOD, CO- Lucas Peruzo, a talented forward from Brazil, shares his journey of falling in love with soccer, staying true through family values, and hoping to make an impact both on and off the field. His story shows us how a passion for the game, combined with dedication and gratitude, helped shape who he truly is far beyond the jersey he wears.
Growing up in Brazil, soccer was more than just a sport it was a way of life. "I fell in love with the sport since I was a kid," Lucas stated. "Coming from a country where everybody is playing and watching soccer, it's hard not to fall in love with it." From pickup street matches to organized youth teams, the game quickly became an important part of his life, that guided him where he is today.
We had the opportunity to ask Lucas to describe himself in 3 words "blessed, hardworking, and grateful." These 3 words show through in his approach to the game and his interactions with teammates. These 3 qualities are things he embraces on and off the field. ''I'm blessed and grateful to be able to show my hard work every day'' Lucas stated as he tied in all 3 words.
When we asked him who he is beyond the jersey, Lucas stated "That's a tough one. I am someone that is very family oriented, and everything I do is to make them proud." His family remains a main force in his life, inspiring him to work constantly toward his goals while still having humility and being grateful for the chances he is given.
Beyond soccer, Lucas enjoys spending time with loved ones and staying connected to his Brazilian roots while keeping the same values that shaped him. After his time in the USA, he plans to return to Brazil and serve as a support system for the kids and players with the same dreams he had. As he continues his college career, he hopes to make a lasting impression not just as an athlete, but as someone who honors his family, his team, and the game he loves.
He discussed how he desires to motivate the next group of players to trust themselves, particularly in moments of adversity. He realizes that soccer exists with challenges in the context of life, and that having those core values can take you further than talent can. "If I can be a role model for one kid who loves the game just like I did," Lucas said, "that will already be a win for me."
Lucas trains daily with the same energy he did as a small child in the streets of Brazil. He plays with joy, discipline, and respect for everyone playing around him. His experience teaches us that passion and purpose create events and that wherever life does take you, staying true to yourself and to your roots is the only path to success.
To summarize our time with Lucas he lastly told us, "Soccer is more than a sport it's a way to grow, connect, and give back. Everything I do is for the people who support me, and that keep me motivated every day."
