Peruzo Brace Propels Cougars to 2-1 Victory at Adams State

ALAMOSA, CO- After not finishing their match on Friday at Fort Lewis due to inclement weather, the Cougars headed to Alamosa to take on Adams State on a sunny Sunday afternoon. After conceding an early goal, CCU stayed the course and leveled the score before halftime. A goal with under two minutes remaining secured the first victory of the season for Colorado Christian and sent them to 1-0 in RMAC play.

The Grizzlies struck quickly with a shot from distance to score in the fourth minute of play. Trailing 1-0 early, the Cougars used a quick transition goal from Lucas Peruzo to level the score in the 18th minute. CCU turned an ASU corner into an opportunity as Bodie Curtis flicked the cross out. Cole Foresman raced to collect the ball, and dispossessed an Adams State player as he streaked into the open field with no one in front of him. Foresman made it all the way into the box before coolly slotting it across the face of the keeper to Peruzo for the tap in. The teams traded shots from there as they went to the half tied 1-1.

Dylan Hall had a look on goal early in the first half that was saved, and Curtis and Daniel Garciacano had shots saved as well as the Cougars upped the offensive pressure. Campbell Wolfgram made a save to keep things tied, and with the pressure on, the Cougars found a way late in the 88th. Avery Hipps tossed a strong throw in towards the box, and Hall headed it towards Peruzo who calmly took one touch and ripped his shot top shelf near post off the keeper's hands and into the goal. CCU held on for the final two minutes of play as they celebrated their first win of the year and went to 1-0 in conference play with the 2-1 result.

The Cougars outshot ASU 8-6 with a 6-4 shots on goal advantage. CCU pressured more with 11 corner kicks to the Grizzlies three. Peruzo upped his total to a team high five goals this season, notching his second brace of the year.

CCU will now have a week to prepare for their home matchup against nearby Colorado School of Mines on October 12 at 1:30 p.m. MDT at Trailblazer Stadium.
