LAKEWOOD, CO – Colorado Christian battled through a dramatic five-set showdown on Friday night, defeating Fort Lewis College 3–2 in an electric matchup at the CCU Event Center. The Cougars claimed the victory with set scores of 17–25, 25–13, 23–25, 25–18, 15–12.
Fort Lewis opened strong, taking Set 1 by a score of 25–17 behind sharp attacking and early control.
Colorado Christian answered emphatically in Set 2, dominating from start to finish. The Cougars' fast-paced offense and aggressive serving overwhelmed the Skyhawks as CCU cruised to a 25–13 win to even the match.
Set 3 unfolded as a tense battle, with the Cougars edging out a 25–23 win to regain the advantage.
Facing a 2–1 deficit, Fort Lewis responded and used balanced scoring to secure a 25–18 victory, forcing a decisive fifth set.
In the final frame, Colorado Christian struck early and maintained steady momentum. Despite a late push from Fort Lewis, the Cougars' defensive toughness and timely kills clinched a hard-fought 15–12 win to seal the match.
Colorado Christian totaled an eye popping 22 team blocks, while Fort Lewis countered with 8.
Renee Phillips led the offense with 16 kills, followed by
Sierra Crist with 14 and
Connelly Kilgore with 10. Phillips was dominant all night, recording eight blocks while
Krista Traynor had 27 assists.
Kristina House led the back row with 22 digs while Crist and Traynor had double-doubles with 13 and 12 digs respectively.
With the victory, Colorado Christian improves to 10–14 overall and 6–7 in conference play, while Fort Lewis falls to 14–9 and 7–6.
CCU close their season on November 15 with a 3 p.m. MST matchup at home against Western Colorado.
