CCU Claims Win Over Western

LAKEWOOD, CO – Colorado Christian came out with the victory on Saturday afternoon over the Western Colorado University Mountaineers, with a final score of 58-37.

The last time the two teams met was an exciting first conference game back in December 2024, seeing the Mountaineers win by just 3 points after a strong comeback from CCU. The redemption game victory from the Cougars today by 21 points saw the team get better each quarter.

The first half was a steady build for both teams, seeing smart shots that weren't falling on either end. With a high foul count for both teams, the game was a battle. A notable stat at the half was Victoria Perez with an impressive 7 steals, forcing turnovers and creating opportunities for the team that helped put them ahead. At the half, CCU was ahead by 8 points with a score of 24-16.

Coming out of the locker room the Cougars continued to improve their game, pushing their lead up to 15 going into the final quarter. The Mountaineers however were quick to shorten the lead back down to 8 just four minutes into the 4th quarter, after putting the pressure on with a quicker defense and forcing a couple turnovers with their press. CCU was able to react and shut down WCU, continuing to stay steady on offense and held the Mountaineers to just 3 more points.

Colorado Christian finished the game with 58, with notable leaders on the offense including Nicole Bowlin with 14, and Victoria Perez and Elise Grosdider with 12 each. Perez finished with 9 steals, and Dasiya Jones led in rebounding with 10.

The win gives the Cougars an overall record of 6-14, and an RMAC record of 4-8. The team will be on the road next week, facing Chadron State and South Dakota Mines.
