Cougars Claim Second Straight Win in OT Thriller at Chadron State

CHADRON, NE- Colorado Christian began a two-game roadtrip on Thursday with a matchup at Chadron State. In an instant classic, CCU and the Eagles went to overtime where the visitors outlasted CSC by a final score of 99-98 led by huge performances from Victoria Perez and Nicole Bowlin

Elise Grosdidier started what would be a strong night with a layup for the first points of the game. Perez converted a layup, and she hit a jumper to bring her team within three. Dasiya Jones and Hayley Luther hit jumpers to continue the scoring as the teams went to the second quarter with CSC leading 19-15.

Bowlin drilled a three-pointer and followed it up with another to make it a two point game. Bowlin continued her stellar play with a three-point play after a layup and foul, while Luther and Perez drained threes to put CCU ahead 34-29. Perez completed an impressive four-point play to close the half with the visitors leading 46-36.

Grosdidier sank a shot from beyond the arc, to push the lead to 11, but from there the Eagles began to climb their way back into the game. Led by a late surge, Chadron State led 65-62 heading to the fourth quarter.

The Eagles started strong to take a seven point lead early in the fourth, but CCU made their way back as Bowlin hit a jumper and later in the quarter Jenna Kendall hit a pair of free throws for a 77-76 advantage. The game remained tight as the quarter winded down, and a three-pointer from the Eagles with 16 seconds to play sent the game into overtime at 86-86.

CSC managed to grab a quick four point lead early in overtime, but from there it was Victoria Perez who stole the show. The junior found a new gear, scoring 11 straight points as things stood tied at 97-97 with 31 seconds left in overtime. After a 1-2 trip to the free throw line from CSC, Bowlin played the hero as she hit the game winning layup with 2 seconds remaining to seal the 99-98 victory in overtime.

Perez had a career night, leading the offense with 32 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and a block. Bowlin was excellent as she hit the game winning layup and posted 26 points and three assists. Jones recorded another double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Grosdidier chipped in 11 points.

With a two game win streak going, CCU will head to South Dakota Mines on February 8 with tipoff slated for 1 p.m. MST.
