CCU Outscore NMHU 23-0 En Route to Pair of Run-Rule Victories

LAS VEGAS, NM- The Cougars closed their four-game series with New Mexico Highlands with a pair of contests on Saturday. It was a dominant performance from CCU as they outscored the Cowgirls 23-0 on this day to claim run-rule victories of 13-0 and 10-0 to open 4-0 in RMAC play.

GAME ONE
A four-run second inning was started by a Peyton Marvel RBI double, and Cheyenne Stark continued the scoring with a single to plate another Cougar. Elyse McMullin roped a two-RBI double as CCU surged ahead 4-0.

Marvel tallied another RBI with a single in the third, and Mia Stankiewicz singled home run number 6. Leah Garcia continued the runs with an RBI single of her own as it stood at 7-0. Stark unleashed a solo home run to left field as her excellent game continued while Rachel Williams tallied an RBI fielder's choice. The barrage continued as Leah singled home a run followed by a two-RBI double from Marvel. Lauren Garcia closed the scoring with an RBI single in the fifth as the Cougars dominated for a 13-0 run-rule victory.

Kaila Eastburn notched the win with 4 innings of work while Carson Griggs pitched the final inning. Marvel had a huge game with 4 RBI, and Stark, McMullin and Leah Garcia all had 2 RBI respectively.

GAME TWO
The second contest of the day featured more of the same domination as game one as CCU quieted the Cowgirl bats and got theirs going again. Leah notched a second inning RBI groundout in the second, while a Stark double and Eastburn double saw the lead grow to 3-0.

Kat Hanson picked up an RBI triple, and Marvel doubled in the 5th run of the game for her team. They continued with a McMullin sac fly before Camryn Quilling put things very much out of reach. The senior blasted a two-run home run that carried far over the center field wall as CCU surged ahead 8-0.

The final few runs came on an RBI fielder's choice from Hanson and a Stankiewicz single as CCU closed the game with a convincing 10-0 mercy-rule win.

McMullin notched the win in the circle with 6 strokeouts in 4.1 innings pitched while Hanna Espinoza recorded the final two outs of the game. A balanced offensive attack saw Quilling and Hanson lead the way with 2 RBI apiece.

The Cougars will look to keep their unbeaten streak in conference play alive in their home opener on January 21 against UCCS at 12 and 2 p.m. MST at All Star Park.
