CCU Drop Back and Forth Affair vs Cowgirls

LAS VEGAS, NM- Colorado Christian played game two of a three-game roadtrip on Thursday at New Mexico Highlands. In a highly contested battle that was tied after quarter one, quarter two and quarter three, the Cowgirls managed to find more in the fourth for a 62-57 victory.

NMHU came out hot, scoring the first seven points of the game before Victoria Perez broke the run with a jumper. She got a layup to go moments later, and Hayley Luther provided a jolt with a big three-pointer. Perez continued her hot shooting night with a three and a layup to tie the game at 12-12. Nicole Bowlin converted a three-point play after a layup and foul to give CCU a two point advantage, and the teams went to the second quarter tied at 17-17.

Dasiya Jones began to get going with back-to-back layups in the second, and the defenses began to limit the scoring output on both sides. A close affair ended with a Jones jumper to take the teams to halftime tied at 27 apiece.

The Cowgirls managed to get a little separation with a four-point lead in the third, but an Elise Grosdidier jumper and pair of Bowlin free throws tied things back up. Trailing by 7 with 2:44 in the quarter, CCU fought back as Grosdidier hit a three-pointer and Jones made a layup to knot things up at 44-44. Trading baskets to close, the teams went to the final period all square at 47 apiece.

The Cowgirls found more life offensively in the fourth, pulling ahead by 8 at one point. The Cougars fought back each time, as free throws and a jumper from Perez made it a one point affair with under a minute to play. A jumper from the Cowgirls pushed the lead to three, and a missed shot from CCU sent the hosts to the line as they iced the back and forth 62-57 victory.

Perez led the offense with 17 points, while Jones and Bowlin tallied 14 points apiece. Luther had a strong 7 point, 7 rebound night, and Jones led the team with 8 boards.

CCU will close their roadtrip with a matchup at Fort Lewis on February 22 at 1 p.m. MST.
