DURANGO, CO- Colorado Christian took on Fort Lewis in the seasons' road finale on Saturday afternoon in Durango. In a battle that was close throughout, the Skyhawks managed to close out a tightly contested 77-68 victory.
Shaylen Woodberry got the scoring started with a three-pointer, and Braley Land and
Promise Idiaru put in layups for an early 7-6 advantage. Land converted another layup and Woodberry continued the strong shooting from beyond the arc with another three to send his team ahead 12-8. The teams continued to go back and forth as the score stood tied at 17 apiece with 9:50 to play in the half.
Bobby McWard drained a three-pointer, while back-to-back dunks from Idiaru energized CCU as the offense continued to score at a high rate.
Tate Odvody sank a three late in the half as the two evenly matched teams went to halftime with FLC leading by just two at 35-33.
Jacob Everson immediately put his team on top with a three-pointer, and a tipin from
Schafer Reichart saw CCU pull ahead 38-35. Odvody got a layup to go, and Everson connected from beyond the arc for a 43-37 lead. The contest remained close as Land splashed in a three-pointer and Reichart made a layup for a 53-48 lead with a little over 10 minutes to play.
The Skyhawks began to find their offense as they took a 6 point lead with 2:31 to play. Fort Lewis continued to pull away as they ultimately closed late for a 77-68 win.
Land paced the offense with 15 points, and Everson dropped 13. Woodberry closed with 10 points with a team high 7 rebounds.
The Cougars return home for a February 27 matchup against Regis at 8 p.m. MST.
