CLAREMORE, OK- CCU closed their series at Rogers State on Monday with a single game to start the week. After striking first in the game's first inning, the hosts came back and pulled away for a 9-1 victory.
Gregory Rangel started strong with a double to centerfield, and
Mason Hagel-Pitt brought him home with a double of his own for the early 1-0 lead. RSU tacked on a run in their half of the first to take things to the second inning knotted at 1-1.
After a Hillcats run in the second gave them a 2-1 advantage, they broke through in the third for three more runs. Three more for RSU in the fourth made it 8-1, and things remained scoreless until one more run in the eighth from the hillcats to close out their eventual 9-1 victory.
Hagel-Pitt was strong with a 2-4 outing that included his RBI double.
Zachary Hill started on the mound, while Luis Acuña,
Trevor Mathis,
Austin DeMello,
Zach Valentine,
Jack Cazin and Bennett Manly all saw action pitching.
The Cougars will now return home to begin a series against UCCS in a home non-conference matchup February 28 at 1 p.m. MST.
