CCU Drop Series Opener vs Mountain Lions

LAKEWOOD, CO- The Cougars began a three-game non-conference set against UCCS at home on Friday afternoon. The Mountain Lions got off to a strong start and ended up taking the victory 15-3 in seven innings.

UCCS scored two runs in the second inning, and they followed that up with a big third inning that featured a pair of homers for a seven-run inning that saw them jump ahead 9-0. Gregory Rangel notched an RBI groundout to plate Taylor McLeod in the third, and Major Maydon demolished a pitch that soared over the right field fence in the fourth to make it 9-2 with the seniors' 5th homer of the year.

UCCS plated a run in the fifth, but Gavin Acosta provided an answer with an RBI double in the bottom half of the inning. The Mountain Lions scored five more runs in the sixth as they went on to claim the victory by a score of 15-3.

Jaxon Simmons started on the mound while Zachary Hill, Bennett Manley and Dillon Dahlgren saw action pitching as well. Maydon, Acosta and Rangel each tallied an RBI apiece for their team.

CCU closes their series with UCCS with a doubleheader March 1 at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. MST at All Star Park.
