CHADRON, NE- The Cougars continued RMAC play on Thursday night with a visit to Chadron State. Despite a second half comeback, the Eagles managed to hold on for a 62-58 victory.
Bradley Land got a quick layup to go, and
Shaylen Woodberry followed with a three-pointer for a 7-6 lead.
Tate Odvody got a tipin to go as a low scoring affair stood at 11-11 midway through the half.
A layup from
CJ Barnes had CCU ahead by one, and
Lincoln Cantrall nailed a three-pointer to keep the lead at one.
Jacob Everson hit a three and
Promise Idiaru made a layup as things stood level at 23-23. A late run from the Eagles sent them to the half leading 28-23.
Schafer Reichart made a layup to make it a three point game, and a three-point play from Everson tied things at 32-32. A
Bobby McWard three and a thunderous dunk by Barnes put CCU ahead 37-36. McWard followed with two more three-pointers as he caught fire to put his team ahead 45-42 with a little over 10 minutes to play.
The Eagles went on a run from there, but another Barnes dunk and free throw cut the gap to four points. The Eagles managed to climb ahead by eight points, but McWard hit one more three with 11 seconds to make it a two point game. However, CSC hit their free throws to hang on for a hard fought 62-58 victory.
McWard paced the Cougars with 14 points on four three-pointers, while Land had 8 points and 6 rebounds.
Colorado Christian will close their roadtrip with a matchup at South Dakota Mines on February 8 at 3 p.m. MST.
