DURANGO, CO- Colorado Christian closed their series at Fort Lewis with a Saturday doubleheader at Aspen Field. It was a clinical day from the Cougars as they claimed a pair of 9-2 victories in both contests to improve to a perfect 12-0 in conference play.
GAME ONE
Leah Garcia got the scoring started right away with an RBI double to right center for a 1-0 lead. The Skyhawks answered by taking the lead on a two-run double of their own for the 2-1 lead.
Elyse McMullin quickly tied things up after she gave up the lead very briefly from the circle as she singled in a run to make it 2-2.
A run scored for CCU in the third on an error, while Danea Lopez notched an RBI on a sac fly in the 5th. The runs continued to cross the plate as
Peyton Marvel singled another run for a 5-2 lead. The seventh saw four runs of insurance score, starting with another RBI single from Marvel.
Mia Stankiewicz tallied an RBI fielder's choice, and
Lauren Garcia picked up an RBI with a single. McMullin closed the scoring with one last single to salt away a 9-2 victory.
McMullin notched the win in the circle with a complete game effort on 5 strikeouts. Marvel notched 3 RBI to lead her team followed by McMullin with two.
GAME TWO
Marvel kept her hot hitting going in game two, immediately ripping a two-RBI double in the first inning. McMullin plated two more with a single to stretch the lead to 4-0. Fort Lewis was able to respond with a pair of runs in the fourth, but Leah answered that with a solo home run in the fifth. A
Rachel Williams single made it 6-2, and Lopez singled home another in the 6th for a 7-2 advantage. Leah came through again with a two-run single in the seventh to match the game one final score of 9-2 for a 4-game sweep of the Skyhawks.
Garcia notched a game high 3 RBI, and Marvel and McMullin had 2 RBI apiece. Duncan tallied win number 5 on the season with a complete game victory on 3 strikeouts.
The Cougars come home to take on Regis with a doubleheader at All Star Park on March 7 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. MST.
