LAKEWOOD, CO – Colorado Christian opened their series against Regis with a Saturday doubleheader at All Star Park. Two gritty performances from the Cougars saw them go 2-0 on the day and improve their win streak to sixteen games.
GAME ONE – The Colorado ChrisAan Cougars began the day off with a nail-biter against the Regis Rangers which was settled in extra innings. CCU took the lead early in the first off of a single from
Rachel Williams, but the Rangers were quick to answer with a score of their own. The Cougs went up in the bottom of the fourth with two scores compliments of
Camryn Quilling hittng a single and CCU capitalizing off of an error by Regis to make the score 3-1. Regis responded with a run in the top of the fiZh and Aed the ballgame at the top of the sixth which took the game to extra innings.
Elyse McMullin, who pitched the entire game, hit a walk-off single to win the game 4-3 and to keep the Cougars undefeated against conference opponents.
Williams, Quilling, and McMullin led the team with one RBI apiece. McMullin had three strikeouts on the way to tallying win number six on the season.
GAME TWO – The second matchup started all CCU, with
Cheyenne Stark singling in the second inning to get CCU on the board, 1-0.
Elyse McMullin then homered to center field to give the
Cougs a 3-0 lead. McMullin then singled to center field in the bottom of the fourth to extend CCU's lead to four. Regis attempted to fight back, scoring two runs in the sixth, but it was not enough to edge past the Cougs who won the matchup 4-2 and improved to 14-0 in conference competition.
McMullin notched a game high three RBI, followed by Stark with one.
Emma Duncan and
Carson Griggs combined for six strikeouts with three apiece.
The Cougars look to continue their win streak with another double header against Regis on March 9 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. MST.
