LAKEWOOD, CO- The Cougars closed their series against Regis on Sunday with a doubleheader at All Star Park. After struggling to find their offense in a 3-1 game one loss, CCU responded with a convincing 8-1 victory in game two.
GAME ONE
The first game of the day was a pitchers duel as
Elyse McMullin faced off with the Rangers' Hallie Crappell. Regis was able to single in a run in the second inning, but from there things slowed down. No one was able to score a run until the Cougars were down to their last out, plating
Peyton Marvel with an RBI groundout from
Kat Hanson to tie things at 1-1 and send things to extra innings. Regis was able to score two in the eighth, and CCU could not push a run across as they were dealt their first loss in conference play.
McMullin was strong with eight innings pitched and five strikeouts.
GAME TWO
Determined to bounce back in game two, CCU scored an early run in the first off a
Rachel Williams single. McMullin drew a bases loaded walk to plate another run in the second, and
Mia Stankiewicz picked up an RBI lineout as the lead grew to 3-0. One more run came across in the second as
Leah Garcia singled home the fourth run of the game for her team.
Cheyenne Stark got a hold of a pitch in the fourth, sending it over the fence in left center field to make it 5-0. A single run in the fifth from regis would not deter CCU as Stankiewicz doubled home another run in the sixth. Marvel then tripled home two more runs to close out the victory for the Cougars 8-1.
Marvel and Stankiewicz each posted two RBI apiece while McMullin, Garcia, Stark and Williams each notched an RBI.
Emma Duncan tallied win number seven on the year with 6.1 innings thrown with six strikeouts.
With a 15-1 RMAC record, CCU will head to nearby Golden to take on Colorado School of Mines with a doubleheader March 15 at 12 and 2 p.m. MST.
