Cougars Roll Past Eagles in Pair of Run-Rule Victories

LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian wrapped up their series at home against Chadron State with a Saturday doubleheader at All Star Park. After a pair of low scoring affairs yesterday, the offense erupted for a pair of run-rule victories by final scores of 9-1 and 13-0.

GAME ONE
The offense got going early in game one, loading up the bases for Danae Lopez to single in a run. Mia Stankiewicz lifted a sac fly to make it 2-0, and Peyton Marvel then blasted a three-run homer over the right field fence to give her team control 5-0.

An RBI groundout from Lopez in the third made it 6-0, but Chadron State brought a run back in the fourth. That was not enough as Lopez continued her stellar game with a two-run triple down the right field line, and Cheyenne Stark walked it off with a single to center field in the fifth for the 9-1 mercy-rule victory.

Elyse McMullin nabbed win number 10 in the circle with a dominant six strikeout, four hit performance. Lopez was strong for her team, going 2-2 with four RBI including a huge triple in the fifth as she eventually came home to score the winning run.

GAME TWO
The second contest featured more of the same from the Cougars as they quickly took a first inning lead off a Leah Garcia double. With the bases loaded, Rachel Williams stepped into the box and roped a bases clearing triple to make it 4-0. Stankiewicz hit the third double of the inning as the score stood at 5-0 after one.

Camryn Quilling picked up a sac fly in the third before an incredible fourth inning from the Cougars. Marvel began by doubling in a run to make it 7-0, and Williams singled in the eighth run of the game for her team. Sarah Dollerschell entered as a pinch hitter and promptly lined a double to left center to plate another run. Kat Hanson pinch hit as well and notched an RBI single to make it 10-0. Lauren Garcia singled in another run, and McMullin closed the scoring with a two-run double as a dominant performance resulted in a 13-0 win via run-rule.

Emma Duncan made it double digit wins on the year with her 10th win in the circle, allowing just two hits and striking out four in four innings of work. It was an offensive clinic as nine Cougars recorded hits, including Williams who led the team with four RBI.

The Cougars will now prepare for a pivotal series at MSU Denver beginning with a March 28 doubleheader at Assembly Athletic Complex at 3 and 5 p.m. MST.
