LAKEWOOD, CO- The Cougars closed their series against CSU Pueblo with another doubleheader on Saturday. It was not the hosts' day as the Thunderwolves ran away with 16-3 and 15-3 victories to sweep CCU.
GAME ONE
The Cougars came out swinging in the first inning as
Lukas Hinze doubled to leadoff and
Mason Hagel-Pitt singled to bring Hinze home for the quick 1-0 lead. The Thunderwolves responded with five runs in the second, and over the next few innings they poured it on for a 10-2 lead.
Connor Laeng notched an RBI single in the fifth, and
Taylor McLeod picked up a seventh inning sac fly, but it was not enough in an eventual 16-3 defeat.
Saxton Sorenson struck out six in four innings of work, while
Dillon Dahlgren and
Trevor Mathis closed the final five innings on the mound.
GAME TWO
CSU Pueblo took a quick 3-0 lead in the top half of the first inning, but the Cougars had the answer in the bottom of the first as
Major Maydon launched his team-leading ninth home run of the season to right field with two runners on to tie things up at 3-3.
The offense could not find their rhythm from there as CSUP plated five in the second and added six runs in the fourth and a run in the sixth to claim the 15-3 victory.
Maydon has now notched 29 RBI on the season, a tally he added to with his three-run blast in the first inning to lead the team in both homers and runs batted in.
Colorado Christian will head to nearby Regis University to begin their series with the Rangers on April 4 at 3 p.m. MST.
