DENVER, CO- The Cougars opened up their series at Regis with a single game Saturday afternoon. After an early run in the first inning, CCU could not stave off the Rangers in an eventual 11-1 setback.
Gavin Acosta led off the game with a walk, and he eventually made his way to third base after a passed ball and wild pitch. With Gavin 90 feet away from home,
Mason Hagel-Pitt roped an RBI double to left center to give his team the early 1-0 lead. Regis plated three runs all on RBI singles in the second inning to take the lead, and a two-run shot from the hosts in the fifth put them ahead 5-1.
The offense for the Cougars fought to get themselves back into the game, but the pitching staff for Regis did a nice job limiting the threats as they would not allow a run the rest of the game. A big eighth inning saw the Rangers plate six more to run away with the 11-1 victory.
Jack Cazin threw a full seven innings, scattering nine hits and allowing just four earned runs with three strikeouts. Hagel-Pitt,
William Brassil and
Major Maydon all recorded a hit apiece.
The Cougars will continue their series at Regis on April 6 with a doubleheader set for 12 and 3 p.m. MST.
