DENVER, CO- The Cougars continued their series at Regis on Sunday with a doubleheader. Despite scoring first in both contests, CCU fell in both games by scores of 5-2 and 14-1.
GAME ONE
Game one got off to a hot start as
Gavin Acosta led off the game with a home run to left field. Two batters later,
William Brassil got in on the long ball party as he launched a home run down the right field line to make it 2-0. A sac fly in the second inning and an RBI single in the fifth tied things at 2-2 heading to the sixth inning. Regis managed to plate three runs in the sixth as they rallied for the 5-2 victory.
Saxton Sorenson added to his league high strikeout total with five more batters fanned to reach 51 strikeouts, going 5.1 innings with just four hits allowed. Acosta and Brassil provided the offense as they showed the power on their two big flies.
GAME TWO
Once again CCU struck first in the second contest of the day as a second inning double from
Nathan Mensen plated
Lukas Hinze for a 1-0 lead. Regis scored three runs in the third and continued to pull away as they scored six runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth as things got away from CCU in an eventual 14-1 setback.
Zachary Hill went four innings on the mound, while
Sawyer Shepherd and
Dillon Dahlgren each saw an inning of work. Hinze and
Major Maydon each recorded two hit games.
The Cougars will close their series at Regis on April 7 with first pitch set for 12 p.m. MST.
