LAKEWOOD, CO- It was another exciting day of softball at All Star Park as CCU and Colorado Mesa finished up their series on Sunday. The offense got going in a 6-2 game one victory for the Cougars, but they were stifled in a 2-0 game two defeat.
GAME ONE
Camryn Quilling got the scoring started with a solo homer in the second, and
Cheyenne Stark singled home a run in the second as well for a 2-0 lead. CMU tallied a run in the third, but
Peyton Marvel blasted a homer to left field in the fourth for a 3-1 lead. Quilling stayed red hot at the plate in the fifth, uncorking a massive two-run homer to make it 5-1.
Elyse McMullin tacked on an insurance run in the sixth as the Cougars ran away with a 6-2 victory.
Hanna Espinoza picked up the win in the circle, throwing 5.2 innings with just one run allowed. Quilling paced the offense with her two-homer game, tallying three RBI.
GAME TWO
Emma Duncan and Preslee Christensen faced off in a pitchers duel in game two as quick outs and strikeouts were a common theme. The two battled into the sixth inning when CMU managed to slap a two-run single for the 2-0 advantage. The Cougars were unable to get a run across in this one as the defense for the Mavericks made several extra-base robbing plays to keep CCU in check and claim the 2-0 victory.
Duncan struck out seven in 5.1 innings of work with just two runs allowed.
