ALAMOSA, CO- Colorado Christian headed down south to begin their last conference road series with a doubleheader at ASU Softball Field against Adams State on Thursday. Fueled by quick offensive starts, the Cougars earned back-to-back run rule victories, scoring 20 runs each game in impressive fashion.
GAME ONE
With a 1-0 lead heading into the Top of 2nd, the Cougars bats erupted for a nine run inning, their highest scoring output in an inning of the season.
Cheyenne Stark got things rolling with an RBI single bringing in
Mia Stankiewicz, followed by a two-run triple by
Peyton Marvel.
The lineup flipped over and brought up
Sarah Dollerschell the second time through as she delivered with a grand slam to center field to cap off the monstrous inning. Earning her first collegiate home run, Dollerschell put her Cougars squad up firmly, 10-0.
The Grizzlies cut slightly into the lead with a solo shot off the bat of Grace Hendrickson, the only hit
Emma Duncan gave up in her three inning outing.
The Cougars came back in the third with a six run inning highlighted by a pair of back-to-back RBI triples by
Camryn Quilling and
Lauren Garcia.
Rachel Williams' one run triple in the 5th allowed the Cougars to reach the 20 run threshold and capped off a 4-4 performance behind the plate with two doubles, a triple, and three runs batted in.
Three batters were able to secure four hits (Williams, Marvel, Stankiewicz), coupled with eight out of the ten batters in the lineup driving in a run. The 20-run performance was the highest scoring output for the Cougars along with their 22 hits on the season.
GAME TWO
The Cougars were not finished and got out quickly to a 1-0 lead after a leadoff double from
Peyton Marvel, followed by an RBI triple from
Elyse McMullin. It was deja-vu again for the Grizzlies as McMullin came through her second time in the 2nd driving in Marvel on a triple to left center, sprouting the Cougars lead to 5-0
Reigning RMAC Player of the Week
Camryn Quilling continued her impressive offensive onslaught with a three run inside the park home run in the 2nd, to extend the Cougars lead to 9-0.
Quilling has now hit three home runs in her last four games.
The Grizzlies were finally able to damage the scoreboard with their bats as McMullin gave up a two run double to Ali Davis in the Bottom of 2nd, the only runs McMullin gave up on her way to her eleventh win of the season.
McMullin immediately made amends in the Top of 3rd, hitting a solo home run to right center. The Cougars added onto that in the 4th highlighted by a two-run triple by
Cheyenne Stark and another solo shot to left center by
Elyse McMullin, her second of the game.
Rachel Williams rounded off the six run 4th with a one run triple extending the lead to 17-2.
Peyton Marvel had the honors of making it consecutive games with 20 runs for the Cougars, on a two run inside the park home run, adding to her team high sixth home run on the season.
The Cougars bats eclipsed twenty hits and recorded seven triples, thus setting a new school record for most team triples in a single game previously held by (4 vs. UCCS (4/17/19, 4 at. ASU (4/17/25))
The Cougars will close out the series with a doubleheader against the Grizzlies starting at 11 a.m. MST.
