ALAMOSA, CO - Colorado Christian wrapped up their last conference road series at ASU Softball Field against Adams State. The Cougars backed up their two run rule wins yesterday with another pair, completing the series sweep. Reigning RMAC Pitcher of the Week,
Emma Duncan, and RMAC Player of the Week,
Camryn Quilling continued their dominance on the mound and behind the plate to crown off one of the most dominant weekends in program history.
GAME ONE
The Cougars picked up where they left off from yesterday by driving in two runs in the Top of 1st, delivered by a one run double by
Kat Hanson and a one run triple by Quilling. The Grizzlies quickly responded with a two run double by Emily Sauvageau in the Bottom of 1st to knot things up 2-2.
Elyse McMullin came through in the Top of 2nd to break the tie on an RBI single up the middle to score
Sarah Dollerschell, followed by a two-run single by Hanson driving home
Peyton Marvel and McMullin.
The Reigning RMAC Pitcher of the Week
Emma Duncan provided another impressive performance on the mound. Other than giving up a two run double and an unearned run off an error in the infield, Duncan made quick work of the Grizzlies batters in the box. Duncan shelled out a career high and school record 17 strikeouts in her five-inning outing. Her seventeen strikeouts are the highest single game strikeouts recorded in program history since (15 by Kali Crandall at CUI (2/11/23)). Duncan also claimed the highest strikeout total in a single game of all conference pitchers previously held by Colorado Mesa's Jessalyn Gallegos (15 at. CSU Pueblo (3/29/25)).
The freshman Hanson completed a perfect game behind the plate with an RBI double up the middle in the 4th, going 4-4 with two doubles and four RBI's, her highest production of the season thus far. The Cougars collected four more runs in the 4th and 6th inning to coast to their third consecutive run-rule victory and Duncan's 16th win of the season.
GAME TWO
The Cougars speed showed up once again in Top of 1st with a double steal play from McMullin to second and Marvel stealing home.
Danae Lopez delivered an RBI double to left center to extend the lead to 3-0.
The 2nd inning for the Cougars provided some of their biggest sparks of the season with three home runs sent out by McMullin and back-to-back solo shots from
Rachel Williams and Quilling. The power off the bats bolstered the lead to 8-0 heading into the Bottom of 2nd where the Grizzlies produced their highest scoring flurry of the series with four runs capped off by a two run double from Caylie Eiguren, cutting the Cougars lead in half, 8-4.
The Cougars responded with a six-run 3rd inning that featured Williams' second home run of the game followed by a two-run blast by
Danae Lopez to blow the lead up to 14-4. The Grizzlies Ali Davis was able to cut marginally into the lead with an inside the park home run in the 4th. However, the reigning RMAC Player of the Week Quilling provided her third RBI triple of the weekend to bring the lead back to double digits for the Cougars, 16-5.
Coming off her headline last weekend, Quilling went 10-14, hitting two doubles, three triples, and two home runs, driving in twelve in the series. Quilling is now tied for the team lead in home runs (6) and has improved her batting average to .359 on the year. Strong performances this weekend from Duncan and Quilling should garner another potential nomination for back-to-back Player and Pitcher of the week considerations for the Cougars.
The Cougars close out their road conference schedule with a 15-3 record, and with one more regular season series at home against CSU Pueblo beginning April 25th, a lot remains to be decided. The Cougars still have a chance of hosting regionals and will be decided with their outcomes against CSU Pueblo and Colorado Mesa (1 game back of) and MSU Denver's (2 games back of) individual series.
