LAKEWOOD, CO- The Colorado Christian University softball team faced off against Black Hills State in an exciting doubleheader at All Star Park in Lakewood, Colorado this afternoon. After dropping a 9-2 result in game one, the Cougars responded with a 9-1 run-rule victory in six innings in the second contest of the day.
GAME ONE
The matchup was highly anticipated, as both teams were eager to make their mark in the ongoing season. Despite putting in a strong effort, the team faced a tough matchup but showed resilience across the board. CCU's offense was challenged, with standout performances coming from
Peyton Marvel (SS) who recorded a hit and an RBI.
Kat Hanson (3B) and
Cheyenne Stark (RF) also added valuable hits, with Hanson contributing two and Stark contributing one to the team's total of six. In the end, the Cougars fell short in this one by a final score of 9-2.
GAME TWO
In the second game of the double header, CCU was able to bounce back with a convincing win. In the game,
Rachel Williams, who has been a powerful presence at the plate, hit her first home run of the season, adding to the excitement of the game. On the basepaths, Marvel stole two bases, showing her quickness and aggressive approach. Williams added another stolen base to her tally, while Stark also swiped a bag. These aggressive baserunning efforts set the tone for CCU's game plan, putting pressure on the Black Hill State defense. CCU's defense was rock solid, with Stark and Hanson making crucial plays. The team recorded two double plays, highlighting their fielding efficiency and ability to make key defensive stops when needed.
