Colorado Christian Split Doubleaheader on Day Two of Concordia Kickoff Classic

IRVINE, CA- Colorado Christian continued play at the Concordia Kickoff Classic on Saturday with another pair of games, taking on Hawaii Pacific and Chaminade. After letting a lead slip in a 5-3 setback against the Sharks, CCU came back with a run-rule 11-1 victory over the Silverswords.

GAME ONE
Maya Schroeder got the scoring started with a sac fly to center field to make it 1-0. Abbie Walden singled in another run in the fourth as CCU led 2-0. A bases-clearing double from the Sharks in the fifth gave them a 3-2 lead as the Cougars suddenly found themselves trailing for the first time this season.

Elyse McMullin tied things up in the fifth when she scored on an error to make it 3-3. Hawaii Pacific scored two more runs in the sixth, and they managed to hold CCU the next two innings to send the Cougars to a 5-3 defeat.

Lisa Liddell struck out six in 4.0 innings of work with one earned run allowed on 72 pitches.

GAME TWO
The Cougars came out in game two against Chaminade with a vengeance, taking out their frustration from the earlier loss and jumping all over the Silverswords in the first inning.

Felesha LePenske started the onslaught with a two-run single, and Peyton Marvel picked up a sac fly to make it 3-0. LePenske scored on a wild pitch, while Walden notched an RBI single as the lead grew to 5-0.

McMullin continued the massive top of the first with an RBI groundout, and Arriana Wright doubled down the left field line to plate two more to cap the 9 run inning. Chaminade tallied a single run in the bottom half of the first, but that was all they could muster. Sarah Dollerschell doubled in another run in the second, while Marvel sealed the victory with an RBI single in the third as CCU claimed the 11-1 run-rule victory.

LePenske claimed the win with five full innings pitched, striking out six on an economical 73 pitches tossed. Wright, Marvel and LePenske led the offense with two RBI apiece.

CCU will look to close the Concordia Kickoff Classic out on a high note on February 1 as they take on Menlo College with first pitch set for 10 a.m. MST.
